Race info and guidelines

In 2025, we are introducing a refreshed experience spanning September and October, aligned with the World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September) and World Mental Health Day (10 October). As a corporate sponsor, company can take part in a series of activities aimed at supporting employees' mental health.

Virtual Race (8 – 22 September)

Participants will register on a mobile app using a unique promo code, unlocking three challenges that track their progress as step counts—climbing up to the equivalent of 947 steps to reach the Jardine House’s penthouse—during the virtual race period. Each sponsor may nominate up to 200 participants. Awards will go to the top three individuals who represent their companies.

Physical Race (12 October)

Participants will compete in a 49-floor vertical race, covering 947 steps, to reach the Penthouse of Jardine House. Race categories include team relays of five participants in men’s, women’s, and mixed divisions, as well as individual races.

Come and cheer on your colleagues competing for the champion titles. Bring your family and friends to join in the fun at the Carnival, where games and activities that promote mental health await!

Join the virtual race via the app below

Physical race guidelines

Corporate and youth team relay

  • Each team should have five runners.
  • For each mixed corporate relay team, there must be at least one runner of the opposite sex from the majority of the team.
  • All relay runners are required to wear their numbered bib, which will be handed out during registration, in the manner specified by race officials for easy identification.
  • Each team is provided with a relay baton. The baton must be carried by team members during the race and passed to the next member at the check points on the 10th, 20th, 30th and 40th floors.
  • The time when the last member of each team carrying the baton reaches the finish point will be recorded as the team’s overall time.
  • Teams ending the race without the relay baton will be disqualified.
  • Upon passing the baton, runners should exit the stairway via the service lift for transfer to the ground floor.

Individual race

  • All runners are required to wear their numbered bib, which will be handed out during registration, in the manner specified by race officials for easy identification.
  • Runners who cannot complete the race within 15 minutes will be asked to leave the stairway at the next check point.
  • In the Barrow Cup, each runner will obtain a score which is based on the "Completion Time" divided by age. The runner with the lowest score will be the winner (i.e., fastest veteran runner by age).

NGO team relay

  • Each team should have five runners, each of whom will complete five floors, for a total of twenty-five floors in all.
  • All runners are required to wear their numbered bib, which will be handed out during registration, in the manner specified by race officials for easy identification.
  • Runners who may have difficulty with the race should be identified to race officials so that suitable assistance can be provided.

Important notice for physical race runners

  • The starting line is on the ground floor lobby of Jardine House.
  • The starting line for the NGO Race is on the 24th floor.
  • The finish line for all categories is at the 49th floor penthouse of Jardine House.
  • All runners / teams must sign in at the registration table 30 minutes before race time. Relay runners will be transferred to designated floor before the start of the race. Late arrivals may not be admitted to the race. All races will be divided into groups.
  • A staggered starting time method will be used whereby there will be a pause of five minutes between each group starting the race.
  • Runners should take every precaution not to obstruct other runners.
  • Under no circumstances should runners walk down the stairway. Runners requiring assistance should stay in place and call for help.
  • The winner and runners-up are the three runners / teams with the fastest time recorded of all races (except The Barrow Cup) of the same category.
  • Appeals will only be allowed under exceptional circumstances. All appeals must be forwarded to the controller at the ground floor immediately after the race. The controller’s decision is final.
